What We Do

Did You Know:

In the United States today, one out of six children live in poverty. Families with children make up 35% of                       the people in this country who experience homelessness.

Family Promise helps local communities coordinate their compassion to address the root causes of family homelessness. We address the issue holistically, providing prevention services before families reach crisis, shelter and case management when they become homeless, and stabilization programs once they have secured housing to ensure they remain independent. We tap existing local resources to empower families towards economic stability. Families come to us in crisis; we help them rebuild their lives with new skills and ongoing support.

Our Services

Family Promise of Greater Lafayette provides shelter, food, transportation, and case management services to families that qualify for our program.

We serve families that are residents of Tippecanoe County (or one of our surrounding counties) only. Every family will receive case management services that include but are not limited to help with accessing local resources (health insurance, food stamps, bus passes), budgeting, career building, employment, childcare, and housing.

Our Program

Our program is available to families with minor children who are in a housing crisis. Most families are in our shelter program for 30-45 days. During that time, adults are asked to work closely with our case manager to address the barriers that are keeping them from living independently. Children are able to stay in their own school, and bus transportation will be arranged for them. Adults must remain clean and sober while in the program.

Prevention

Preventing families from becoming homeless in the first place with Shelter Diversion, Rental Assistance and Transportation programs.

Emergency Shelter

Our rotational shelter program and warm hospitality is the foundation of the Family Promise model.

Graduate Support Services

Helping the families we serve not only succeed today but remain stable in their housing, financial capability and career paths tomorrow.

Community Initiatives

Family Promise understands the needs of vulnerable families. So, we offer innovative programs – such as tenancy preparation, financial literacy, and virtual career pathway training - to address them in a cost-effective, targeted approach.
